























In 1998 Valerie Sam was sent for training in the Land Management Training Program, in 1999-2000 she completed a one-year internship at the Department of Indian & Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) and obtained training in all areas of land management. Upon completion of her training BCR’s were obtained by 19 Sto:lo First Nations to join the Regional Lands Administration Program (RLAP) with Val Sam as their Manager.
Sto:lo Nation Lands Department co-manages 57 reserves for 20 First Nations, with 758 Certificate of Possessions, 116 Leases and/or Permits and a population of 4676. The department consists of a Manager, two Lands Officers (Leasing & Estates), two Land Researchers one full time and one part time.
The 20 RLAP First Nations under the Sto:lo Nation Lands Department are: Aitchelitz, Chawathil, Cheam, Kwantlen, Kwaw Kwaw Apilt, Leq'a:mel, Matsqui, Popkum, Scowlitz, Seabird Island, Shxw’ow’hamel, Shxwha:y, Skawahlook, Skowkale, Skwah, Soowahlie, Squiala, Sumas, Tzeachten and Yakweakwioose.
As of April 1, 2005 the Sto:lo Nation Lands Department will continue to provide high quality land management services to the following 13 First Nations:
